History of the “O”

I am talking about the O in Cheeri-O!! What is it about that little round O? Are Cheerios that good that other toddlers are screaming for them too?
Little A now knows that our Cheerios are kept in the pantry. At every meal she points and yells at the pantry for her O’s. This is another battle that I can not win. Are other mom’s experiencing this too? Is it OK to serve Cheerio’s at every meal?! Little A goes crazy for them every time.

I couldn’t resist to show the life of Little A eating  her “O’s”

FotoFlexer is da bomb! I won’t go into a lot of detail because its self-explanatory, but I was able to do some fun things to a few of my pictures…

Creating a Memory

This past weekend my bike got the tune up it needed-gaining a seat for my little A. In the afternoon on Sunday, baby A and I set out on our first bike ride together. I have longed for this moment. Dreamt about it. Visualized about it. Created so many ideas about it. My most vivid picture of what it would be like, is baby A having the hugest smile while we cruise down the  street, headed to the Farmers Market. Wind in our hair, beaming with expressions.

Then it happened….was it what I had thought? Or was it even better!

Getting the feel of having her perched behind me is a little nerve-wracking to say the least. But only for me of course. She’s having a ball!

Once I got the feel of  her weight, I knew this was going to be a summer full of so much fun.

As for now, we have ridden all the way to the end of our street.

Rash decisions over Ash

I’m in the travel industry, working for a large travel agency, so I feel I can voice my opinions on this mess in the air. Over the weekend, the hold times with the airlines was over 60 minutes….that is a long time! What is happening right now is insane.

According to my sources, this is a bigger mess than 911, in terms of how it is effecting travelers and the amount of money the airlines are losing each day. Mother Nature has never effected air travel like this in our history. When 911 occurred, all flights were grounded for a couple of days. With  the Iceland volcano, some flights are departing and some are grounded. It appears they are taking an hour-by-hour approach. The information we are receiving is to go to the airport, wait in the long lines and find out then if you are on the flight or not. Sounds pretty organized, I think not!!! Talk about creating confusion and/or showing a lack of given information to our travelers.

What I find to be the most bizarre to say the least, is hearing that some flights are being coined as “test flights.” Test flights being sent to either go around the clouds of volcanic ash or to even go through the clouds and see if they make it. Say what?!! Who volunteers for that flight, is what I want to know? Those pilots better be getting time and a half!! What has happened with these test flights has created these decisions to leave it up to the airlines and our weather system to see if flights will make it. If I am a passenger, I don’t want to be on a flight that has made a rash decision to fly (losing millions if the plane stays grounded as a motive) through the mess. According to our sources at United, UA’s test flights were able to go around the clouds, some returning over the weekend, however the military sent a test flight to go though the clouds and considerable damage was done to the engine. The volcanic ash is made up of rock and glass which could make a plane lose all power and go down over the frigid waters. Luckily the plane didn’t crash!

All in all, the airlines (I think!) are doing what they can considering this has never happened before. The team work also involved by other countries to try to get people back to their homes in the UK, has also been unprecedented. Spain sent a navy ship with 2oo+ passengers back to the UK to get them home. Hertz rental car has opened up a special hotline noting all their international cars available in case you are in Europe and want to drive to another country to get home. Some inter European flights have also been able to fly as they are flying at lower altitudes in order to keep people flying.

Besides all the earthquakes that we think too are happening more frequently right now, here is another way nature is impacting us without our abilities to make a change to stop it from doing what it does.

My advice, don’t travel this week. Seems pretty simple, ha!

TV made me do it

I did it! I succumbed to my urge and made a purchase off of an infomercial. I now you are extremely curious to know what I bought.

A topsy turvy! “What’s that you might ask,” or maybe you are saying, “Way to go, you did it, yeah, it is the best invention!”

On Sunday, Ava and I went to the farmers market, a tradition that I would like to establish with her. An outing, to show her that we support our local farms and select our own organic fruits and vegetables. Among some things, I bought 4 plump red tomatoes on a vine and it cost me a whopping $4.25!

I know these tomatoes are really special and all, but that price for 4 tomatoes. I was shocked to see that other vendors were charging the same thing.

There has to be a way that I can grow tomatoes on a deck, I pondered. When an idea pops into my head, fabulous or not, there is no stopping me from making it happen!

That evening while I starred at my beautiful, red tomatoes, wallah, the famous topsy turvy commercial came on!

I swear there is someone looking over me and my persistent, sometimes dominating thoughts.

3 days later, my topsy turvy was installed. According to the box, it guarantees 3 lbs of tomatoes in 6 weeks as long as it gets 6-7 hours of full sun.

My deck is the ultimate sun spot, so this should work, right???

Oh and by the way, who said that you had to have a side yard to create a garden. I’m creating a garden as we speak on my deck…cilantro, basil, rosemary, & sugar-plum tomatoes….hey don’t laugh,  it’s a start!!

I’m taking the Pledge!

I have read stories that involved a car accident where the driver of the vehicle was texting. Remember, the incident in LA in ’08 where the commuter train crashed head on into another train due to the driver’s failed attempt to stop at a red light because he was texting. Because he was texting!!

This is what happened:

Or the driver of this vehicle swerved into on coming traffic and crashed

I am not doing this to shock and awe you, but as a gesture to show you what I see and have come to the conclusion that the car isn’t a place to be doing other things. So many of us (me included) have kind of turned our car into an extension of our office. Now that I am in the car, it’s a prefect time to play catch up to all the calls I need to respond to. Before, I would think “oh, I’m paying attention to what lies in front of me. That would never happen to me.” But as I’m sure, the driver of those vehicles probably thought the same thing. Thinking that we’re “invisible” is really being naive.

On Friday, April 30, 2010 U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS), FocusDriven, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and RADD are joining forces with my wish-to-be-friend OPRAH, to declare “No Phone Zone Day”

So my message here is to join the bandwagon! Enjoy the minutes it takes to get somewhere without the distraction of being on the phone. Remember the time when we didn’t have cell phones and the person you wanted to call just would have to wait until you got home to call them. I’ll I ask is that you try it. Let me know if you succeeded and I will too!

Zoe, I owe you one!

Zoe. My first-born. Zoe came into my life at the perfect time, when I was single 7 years ago.  I can’t believe on April 15th Zoe will be 7. She has always been the love, the cuddler, the little puggle face that looks at you with such love. Well, Zoe I am sorry that you have taken a back burner to my real first-born baby A. These days, Zoe just gets pushed aside at the wonderment of baby A   A gets the first hello when we walk into the room, the first to eat at meals and the first hug in the morning. Zoe used to come first. If I could only read Zoe’s brain and see what she has to say about all of this lack of attention. Or maybe I don’t even want to know!

Two nights ago I came down with a horrible stomach flu. Debilitating to say the least. The doting husband had to leave for work in the am..so he was gone, grandma took A  for the day so I could rest….she was gone. All was left was myself and my puggle. Poor Zoe stayed in her crate until I could muster enough energy to let her out which was around 10am, only to let her have some breakfast and be locked out at the bottom of the stairs. It wasn’t until 5pm could I even think about going outside and letting her out. Poor dog, potty break only once that day! Can I tell you that living in a condo has its pluses, but also has its minuses….I’d give anything at times for a doggy door to a back yard!!

After everything this poor pooch has to endure as second best, this mommy feels awful! Zoe, I owe you big. Don’t worry pooch I will make this up to you, I promise!

Go Live Green

We’re going LIVE. Going Live with Green Awareness.

If I were to rate my family of 3 as “Green” I would have to say we are 50% committed. When I think of our family as Green the first thing that comes to my mind is, hey we recycle! Kidding. There is more we do to live more ecco friendly. I choose to buy eco friendly cleaning products.  I choose to buy organic fruits and vegetables and organic baby foods. But outside of food and Mrs. Meyers Cleaning products, there is definitely room for improvement. It is my mission to dig into my old hippy days and make a bigger change. Will it be hard to change or will it be easy? I am up for the challenge and will see how easy it is to incorporate into our lives. Stay tuned.

Household Engineer

It dawned on me this past week, while my husband was out of town and I had time in the evening to ponder my existence in this world,  I came to the conclusion, what exactly was my title? Was it just Mother? Or was it something else besides mother and I just needed to find it.

If you had never met me and walked up to me on the street and asked, “What do you do?” my quick response would be mother.  But recently I have wanted a little more. I would prefer my answer to be, “blah blah blah and I am raising a child.” Now to find out what the “blah blah blah” would be.

Household Engineer. That is me.

The definition of the two seemed to fit me perfectly.

household: for use in maintaining a home, esp. for use in cooking, cleaning, laundering, repairing….nurse, book keeper, dog walker, listener.

engineer: a person who is in charge or operates an engine.

Our house is our engine and this mommy is in charge!

So for now, while I look to finding my other purpose besides being a mommy,  my new title is Household Engineer.
